Incident Overview
In December 2024, former Fitzgerald Public Schools Superintendent Hollie Lyn Stange and former Food Services Director Amanda Gail Carroll faced charges for possessing cannabis near school grounds in Warren, Michigan.
Police Investigation
Police, investigating fights at Fitzgerald High School, observed Stange drive to a nearby plaza and enter Carroll’s car.
They allegedly shared a cannabis blunt. A traffic stop revealed a .22 rifle in Stange’s vehicle.
Legal Outcome
On Sept. 4, 2025,
a judge ruled that the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act (MRTMA) supersedes the Public Health Code’s 1,000-foot restriction on cannabis possession near schools.
The cannabis possession charges were dismissed.
Remaining Charges
Stange still faces a charge for possessing a weapon in a weapons-free zone.
Her pretrial hearing is set for Oct. 16, 2025.

Both officials were placed on administrative leave following the incident.
