House committee advances marijuana legalization bill, but many say final approval unlikely

OG article by Tony Lange October 30 2025 The New Hampshire House Commerce Committee advanced House Bill 186 to legalize cannabis for adults 21+, allowing home cultivation and taxing sales under the existing rooms and meals tax (estimated $27M/year). Public smoking would be a violation-level offense. Despite strong public support and no license caps, opposition from Gov. Kelly Ayotte and the Senate makes passage unlikely before the next election. Rep. Jared Sullivan (D) emphasized keeping the conversation alive, while Rep. John Hunt (R) supported the bill but acknowledged it won’t become law under current leadership.
