A new Drug Rehab USA survey of 1,000 people with recent dating experience reveals marijuana use is rarely seen as a "red flag" in relationships. Only 25% view it negatively, compared to 38% for cigarette smoking and 73% for high-risk illicit drugs. Alcohol carries the least stigma at 22%. Four in five millennials and seven in ten Gen Z adults are unbothered by a partner's cannabis consumption. Notably, 68% said relationships wouldn't strengthen if a partner quit marijuana, and 10% believed it could cause distance. Daily use occurs in 22% of dating partnerships overall, rising to 35% among Gen Z. About 24% reported substance use enhances intimacy by promoting relaxation or passion. Despite positive views, just 13% would post a photo of themselves using marijuana on a dating profile. The survey positions cannabis as neutral or connective in romance. Supporting research links marijuana to higher relationship satisfaction (especially for women), increased sexual desire, arousal, enjoyment, and reduced distress. Studies show cannabis outperforms alcohol for sexual sensitivity and fulfillment, with lower doses often optimal and effects varying by gender. Overall, findings suggest cannabis integration in dating is broadly accepted rather than stigmatized.
