BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Cattaraugus County parent was charged after a 2-year-old allegedly overdosed on a marijuana edible while unsupervised, Olean police said Thursday.
The alleged incident happened on June 26. Police responded to a residence where a child was in distress and said they discovered the child ingested part of a marijuana edible labeled “death bar.”
The child was transported to Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo for treatment and recovered. The parent, who was not immediately identified by police, was charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, a misdemeanor.
Child Protective Services in Cattaraugus County also investigated the incident.
“Please keep any type of edible locked up in your home,” the Olean Police Department wrote.
“Most edibles appear to children as candy.”
