Primary Reason


Chronic pain is the top reason Kentuckians apply for medical cannabis cards, reports WHAS11.


Qualifying Conditions


Kentucky law restricts medical cannabis to residents with:


  • Chronic or severe pain

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

  • Cancer

  • Multiple sclerosis

  • Chronic nausea

  • Seizure disorders


Application Data


As of September 15, the Office of Medical Cannabis approved 13,925 applicants. Over 90 are caregivers who assist with purchasing and administering cannabis. Practitioners submitted nearly 20,320 electronic certifications.


Program Progress


Governor Andy Beshear stated on September 4 that dispensaries await cultivators and processors but should operate by year-end. He emphasized careful implementation.
