Kentucky’s medical marijuana program, launched January 1, 2025, faced early supply challenges. The state’s only open dispensary, The Post in Beaver Dam, opened December 13 and sold 3,500 grams (roughly 1,000 eighth-ounce packages) of a single hybrid flower strain in its first week, priced around $50 per package. Vaporizers were also available, as smoking remains prohibited. High demand drew patients statewide, with lines reaching 400 people. The dispensary exhausted inventory and closed temporarily, planning to reopen in mid-January with fresh stock from in-state cultivators. Kentucky requires all products to be grown and processed locally, but cultivation began only about five months ago, causing delays. Nearly 15,000 residents hold medical cards, but no other dispensaries operate yet. Officials expect prices to drop below $25 per eighth as production scales up and supply chains mature.
