Carson City, NV: Members of the state assembly and senate have approved legislation, SB 277, that increases the amount of cannabis products adults may legally possess.

Senators approved the measure by a vote of 21 to 14. Members of the Assembly passed the bill by a vote of 28 to 14. It now awaits action from Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo.

Provisions in the bill allow adults to legally possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis flower (up from ounce) and/or up to one-quarter of an ounce of concentrates (up from one-eighth of an ounce).

Language in the bill permits licensed retailers to dually serve adults and patients, and it also allows those with prior convictions to apply to work in the licensed cannabis industry.

Nevada voters approved a statewide ballot initiative in 2016 legalizing the adult-use cannabis market. Voters initially decided in favor of an initiative legalizing the production and distribution of medical cannabis in 2000.

Additional information on pending legislation is available from NORML’s Action Center.
