The Natural Medicine Alliance of Idaho is intensifying signature collection for the Idaho Medical Cannabis Act, a 2026 ballot initiative to create a regulated medical marijuana program decided by voters. Launched last month, it targets qualifying conditions like cancer, ALS, epilepsy, PTSD, chronic pain, and Alzheimer's. Patients would receive Medical Cannabis Cards, with producers holding licenses (initially three, expandable to six) for vertical integration, including growth, processing, and sales under strict rules like pharmacist oversight, labeling, and inspections. Prohibitions include public use, sharing, and impaired driving, with protections against discrimination in employment, housing, or custody. Amid Idaho's 836,000 annual opioid prescriptions, the Alliance promotes cannabis as a non-addictive alternative to ease suffering and support agriculture while generating tax revenue. Events span December at locations like Boise's Grove Plaza markets (Dec. 6, 13, 20), Gem County Fairgrounds bazaar (Dec. 6-7), Albertsons Stadium championships (Dec. 5), Idaho Falls hockey game (Dec. 4), and Caldwell parade (Dec. 6). Aiming for over 70,000 signatures, the campaign meets voters at community hubs to empower patient access and local decision-making.
