ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — The Colorado State Patrol is looking for suspects who stole 600 pounds of marijuana from an evidence parking lot in Arapahoe County earlier this month.
On the morning of April 4, a Colorado State Patrol evidence technician found damage to a secured gate away from the lot's entrance, according to a press release from the state patrol. A secured trailer, where the marijuana was stored, was also broken into, the state patrol said.
The trailer and the marijuana were taken into evidence by the state patrol as part of a highway drug investigation, however, there was no active court case involving the stolen evidence. A report has been filed with the Englewood Police Department, and CSP is investigating the burglary.
CSP believes the suspects first came to the lot after dark on April 1 and used a power tool to remove a lock from the gate and a lock on the trailer. The theft was discovered on days later on April 4.
Since the burglary, CSP has identified gaps in the facility's security process and has increased exterior property walkthroughs and security camera system checks. An internal investigation is also underway to determine if the established protocols were violated.
