Maryland’s Task Force on Responsible Use of Natural Psychedelic Substances recommends a phased approach: (1) build regulations and deprioritize personal possession of psilocybin; (2) allow medical use under oversight; (3) expand to commercial sales and other substances (DMT, mescaline excluding peyote). The report cites promising research for PTSD and treatment-resistant depression but warns of risks without professional guidance. Lawmakers note implementation will take years and stress cultural respect for Indigenous traditions. MedChi urges caution and evidence-based policy.
