Senator Rand Paul Sounds Alarm
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) warns the hemp industry could be outlawed soon. In an interview with The Dales Report, he said, "I'm very fearful the whole industry could be made illegal within the next two weeks."
Urging Action
Paul urges hemp supporters to contact their senators and congressmen. He believes there's "no reason to make this illegal." He suggests regulation over prohibition.
Tight Timeline
When asked if a ban could happen in two weeks, Paul replied, "It may be 2-3-4 weeks, but it could happen with the spending bill." He warns it could also occur in a conference committee report.
Push for Delay
Paul prefers delaying action. He suggests studying the issue for a year to avoid harming the industry.
Spending Bill Threat
In July, House and Senate Appropriations Committees approved a spending bill banning hemp-derived THC products. Some argue it could ban all hemp products. Paul blocked this in the Senate, but the block may not hold.
Conference Committee Concerns
Paul notes the House and Senate will reconcile their bills in a conference committee. He fears prohibitionist language could remain. He has lobbied committee leaders to address the hemp issue.
Fighting for Compromise
Paul has pushed for better language. While not ideal, he says current proposals are "less bad." He aims to prevent a total ban.
