Rachel Yehuda, a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) official, emphasized the need for the federal government to prepare for psychedelic-assisted therapies, such as psilocybin and MDMA, for veterans.
Speaking on CBS Mornings, Yehuda highlighted their potential to address mental health issues like PTSD by accessing core emotional and traumatic issues, unlike traditional treatments that manage symptoms.
She stressed the importance of supervised sessions with trained therapists to handle the intense experiences psychedelics can evoke.
The VA is funding research, including a $1.5 million study on MDMA therapy for veterans with PTSD.
