YouTuber Jack Doherty charged with marijuana possession in Miami Beach: Records

OG article by Julian Quintana and Niko Clemmons

Popular YouTuber Jack Doherty, a 22-year-old with nearly 15 million subscribers known for prank videos and flaunting luxury, was arrested in Miami Beach early Saturday during a targeted enforcement operation. The incident unfolded around 3 a.m. in the 700 block of Washington Avenue, where officers spotted Doherty filming in the roadway, posing a public safety risk amid nightlife crowds. Despite repeated orders to relocate to the sidewalk, Doherty defiantly continued, responding, "Once I [am] done with this bet," leading to his detention for resisting an officer without violence—a misdemeanor.

A subsequent search of his person uncovered three hand-rolled cannabis cigarettes and half an oval-shaped pill marked "3," identified as consistent with amphetamine. He now faces charges of possession of 20 grams or less of cannabis and possession of a controlled substance without prescription. Body camera footage, released publicly, documents the tense exchange and physical apprehension. Doherty bonded out later that morning and spoke to NBC6, downplaying the event: “That was the worst 24-hours ever, I wish I did something crazier to make it worth it.” He claimed the arrest stemmed from "slowly crossing the road" with no traffic present, labeling the police response "excessive" and admitting, “I think they just wanted to lock me up but fair enough, learned my lesson.” Doherty vowed to handle future situations differently, stating, “For sure, I would have definitely done it differently.”

This marks another brush with authorities for Doherty, who has faced prior South Florida scrutiny, including a swatting incident at his home in June 2024 and a livestreamed McLaren crash in October 2024. The case highlights tensions between content creators' boundary-pushing antics and public safety protocols in high-tourist zones. Prosecutors have yet to file formal charges, but the event has sparked online debates about influencer accountability.
