Arizona has greenlit a first-in-the-nation FDA-approved clinical trial using whole psilocybin mushrooms (4.5g dose = ~30mg psilocybin) to treat PTSD in 24 first responders and veterans. Funded by a $5M state grant signed by Gov. Katie Hobbs in 2023, the trial is led by Scottsdale Research Institute (SRI). Sen. Kevin Payne (R) praised the evidence-based approach. This follows vetoed broader psilocybin access bills and separate ibogaine research funding. Arizona also allows workers’ comp for MDMA therapy if federally approved.
