Paul made the claim in response to a post on X where he argued that rescheduling marijuana “really changes NOTHING other than research,” pointing out that it would still be federally illegal, leave people incarcerated, and fail to fix banking issues. “What we need to do is DESCHEDULE,” he said. “This fixes everything. It creates certainty which is badly needed in the cannabis space.”

In a follow-up post, Paul responded to a comment stating “DESCHEDULE is the only way!!” by saying “Working on this now with a national team and at the behest of the DJT admin. About all I can say at present. We will have a press announcement soon.”

Paul is a prominent figure in marijuana reform circles, particularly in Oklahoma where he played a major role in crafting the successful 2018 initiative that legalized medical marijuana. He’s known for his work on endocannabinoid health and regulatory policy, and he leads an organization called GnuPharma focused on cannabinoid science and health products.

His statement adds fuel to growing speculation that President Trump may soon support broader marijuana reforms such as rescheduling or descheduling, with many of his supporters and advisors endorsing nationwide reform in recent weeks.

Further details are expected soon, with Paul saying a formal announcement will come in the near future.
