Houston Couple's Home Falsely Listed as Cannabis Dispensary on Google

OG article by Luke Jones

A southwest Houston couple wants to make it clear that they don't sell drugs after they discovered their home address was being used in a Google listing for a cannabis dispensary.

The listing for "Weed Delivery Recreational Cannabis Dispensary" disappeared hours after Eyewitness News reached out to Google on Monday, but Sara Wright said a handful of people had already shown up to her home asking about marijuana over the last few weeks.

"He just asked me, he was like, 'Do you sell weed here?' and I said, 'No, it's a scam,'" she said of a man who arrived at her home Sunday.

Wright said she discovered the listing by chance after entering her address into the Google Maps app to get directions home.

"I don't even think it's a real business," she said.

Eyewitness News searched the Texas Secretary of State's database and couldn't find any business named Weed Delivery Recreational Cannabis Dispensary.

When Eyewitness News called the number on the listing, a message said the mailbox was full.

A Google search reveals the same number is tied to at least two more purported dispensary businesses in other cities.

"My worry is that people think that, like, we're scamming the money from them," Wright said.

And given the images of marijuana and stacks of cash that accompany the Google listing, she's worried it could make her family a target.

"Armed robbery or home invasion is definitely a concern, especially with little kids," said Wright.

Wright said she and her husband had tried for days to have the listing removed but were unable to reach anyone at Google to address their concerns.

Eyewitness News' outreach appears to have caught the tech giant's attention, given that the listing disappeared after we asked about it. Google hasn't provided an explanation for the listing or addressed what safeguards are in place to ensure other people's home addresses aren't incorrectly listed.
