A political committee backed by major marijuana companies, known as the American Rights and Reform PAC (previously Legalize America), donated an additional $1.05 million to President Donald Trump's MAGA Inc. super PAC in the period before his executive order on cannabis rescheduling, per recent FEC filings. This comprised a $1 million contribution in July and $50,000 in November, raising the PAC's total donations to $2.05 million. The PAC, launched in 2023 with Curaleaf executive Matt Harrell as treasurer, has supported incremental cannabis reform efforts.

These donations preceded Trump's order directing the attorney general to promptly reclassify marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III. The PAC previously released ads criticizing former President Joe Biden's policies and promoting Trump's potential for reform, emphasizing an "America first" approach and referencing his support for Right to Try legislation. One ad highlighted benefits for patients, seniors, and veterans.

Additionally, Curaleaf contributed $250,000 to Trump's inaugural fund via an industry association. A related conservative group praised the rescheduling as fulfilling campaign promises to combat the black market. However, the Justice Department has not set a timeline, and options remain to restart or abandon the process. Republican attorneys general and lawmakers have opposed the move, arguing cannabis lacks accepted medical use and poses high abuse risks. Trump has defended it, citing public support and personal observations of medical benefits.
