Overview
The Mississippi Medical Marijuana Association (3MA) seeks changes to the state’s medical cannabis program, established after Initiative 65’s strong voter approval.
Potency Limits
Current rules cap flower potency at 30% and concentrates at 60%.
3MA’s director, Harry Crissler, argues these limits harm patients.
“They’re not preventing overuse; they’re just costing patients more,” Crissler said.
Patients smoke more to compensate, which isn’t healthier.
Growers dilute products with third-party substances to meet state rules.
Eligibility Expansion
3MA proposes letting practitioners decide if cannabis suits patients better than opiates or benzodiazepines.
Crissler notes Mississippi’s program uniquely restricts practitioner-patient decisions.
“There’s no condition list for prescribing Xanax,” he said.
Patient Card Changes
3MA wants to extend patient card renewals from 12 to 24 months. They also seek to eliminate the mandatory six-month follow-up appointment.
