New Jersey moves forward on $6.6 million psychedelic magic mushroom legalization bill. New Jersey's “Psilocybin Behavioral Health Access and Services Act” advances to legalize and regulate psilocybin-assisted therapy for adults 21+, expunging prior related offenses. The bill allocates $6.6 million to the Department of Health for program setup, creating an 18-member advisory board of experts to develop safety standards, protocols, training, and equity measures over 18 months before licensing manufacturers, service centers, facilitators, and labs. Requirements include background checks, financial capability, zoning compliance, and tracking/labeling modeled on medical cannabis rules. No licenses issue until planning concludes. Supporters cite psilocybin's promise for treating depression, PTSD, and addiction. If passed, New Jersey would follow Oregon and Colorado in establishing supervised psilocybin services. The legislation emphasizes public safety and rehabilitation exceptions for certain convictions.
