Ohio AG Certifies Language for Referendum Challenging Changes to Voter-Approved Marijuana Law. The Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost certified the summary language for a referendum by Ohioans for Cannabis Choice, allowing signature collection to challenge Senate Bill 56. This law, signed in December, bans public consumption, requires purchases from licensed dispensaries, tightens transportation and paraphernalia rules, adds penalties for exceeding home-grow limits, regulates intoxicating hemp, and caps dispensaries at 400. Yost rejected initial language in January but approved the revised version as “fair and truthful,” though he noted this does not affirm the referendum’s enforceability or constitutionality. The campaign needs over 248,000 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot, which would pause SB 56 implementation and let voters decide.
