A push is underway to place a marijuana-related measure on Ohio ballots in November 2026, aiming to overturn recent legislative changes rather than introduce new laws. Ohio voters approved recreational marijuana in 2023, but new regulations enacted this year, including restrictions on hemp products and limits on plant growth, have sparked opposition. Supporters, led by Dennis Willard of a cannabis petition group, argue that politicians in Columbus are overriding voter intent and overreaching by re-criminalizing certain cannabis products. The referendum seeks to repeal parts of Senate Bill 56, which they claim will harm thousands of businesses and jobs. The group is collecting signatures for the measure, which, if successful by the March deadline, would pause the new rules until voters decide. Willard predicts strong voter rejection of the bill and government interference. Additionally, a new law prohibits Ohio residents from buying marijuana products in Michigan for use in the state, a restriction supporters believe will face public anger. The vote would only ask if the recent changes should remain in effect, potentially restoring aspects of the voter-approved initiative and protecting the industry.
