Dallas Mavericks guard Brandon Williams was arrested at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on Saturday after TSA personnel discovered 1.585 ounces of marijuana in a black container in his bag. Williams told authorities that his manager had packed his bag. He was arrested around 10:02 a.m. and charged with possession of marijuana, and was taken to jail without incident.
Williams has been listed as out in the injury reports for the last two games for "personal reasons." He remains questionable for Wednesday's game against the Indiana Pacers. Williams played one season at the University of Arizona and, after going undrafted, bounced around between G League teams before landing in Dallas in 2023. After two seasons on a two-way contract, the Mavericks signed Williams to a multi-year deal in 2025.
Under the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement with the players' union, marijuana is no longer part of the NBA's drug testing program.
